Of everything on a wedding to-do list, flowers are the one people most often leave until “later” — and then discover that later was too late for the date they wanted. This is the honest version of when to book, why the timing matters, and what to have ready so the first conversation is a good one.
The short version: a timeline
- 12+ months out — you have a date and a venue. This is the earliest useful moment to reach out, and the best one if you’re marrying on a Saturday between April and October.
- 6 to 12 months out — most couples get in touch here. Consultation, proposal, deposit. Your date is held.
- 3 months out — counts firm up: bouquets, boutonnières, centerpieces, any installations.
- 30 days out — final payment, if you’re paying up-front rather than financing.
- 72 hours out — we confirm logistics with you: the delivery window, the venue contact, the weather plan.
- The day — flowers arrive in the window we agreed, before the first photograph.
Why florists ask for months, not weeks
Two reasons, and neither is about being precious.
First, peak-season Saturdays book fastest. April through October, the Saturdays go early, and a small studio can only compose one wedding at a time. Booking early isn’t about beating other couples to us — it’s about your date still being available when you’re ready.
Second, the flowers themselves. A wedding is composed from specific stems in a specific palette, sourced for the week of your date. That takes lead time to plan properly rather than substituting on the day. The months between booking and the wedding are when the design gets settled, so the week of, everything is simply execution.
What to have ready before you reach out
Our wedding consultation is a short form, and the more of this you have, the more useful the proposal that comes back:
- Your date and your venue — the two things everything else depends on. Venue address matters because we serve venues within 40 miles of our Fontana studio (more on that below).
- The delivery window — usually “ceremony at 4, flowers by 1.” If you don’t know yet, say so.
- Rough quantities — bridal bouquets, bridal-party bouquets, boutonnières and corsages, ceremony installations, reception centerpieces, personal florals. Estimates are fine; they firm up later.
- An investment range — $1,500–$2,500, $3,000 and up, or bespoke multi-installation work. “Not sure yet” is a perfectly good answer; it just means we start the conversation there.
- A style direction — see below.
- Must-haves — a specific stem, a palette, something sentimental, anything non-negotiable.
Then we come back with a custom proposal: mood, palette, and investment. No pressure to decide on the spot.
Choosing a direction
We compose in four directions, and most weddings sit clearly in one of them:
- Classic Elegance — timeless palettes of white, ivory, and soft greens; structured and refined.
- Lush Garden — garden roses, trailing vines, seasonal foliage; gathered and unhurried.
- Bold & Modern — saturated palettes, architectural lines, confident negative space.
- Bespoke — a direction built from scratch around your venue, season, and story.
You don’t need a Pinterest board to choose. Bring the images that move you and we’ll read the direction off them together.
How the deposit and payments work
A 25% deposit secures your date. It’s non-refundable — it’s what takes your Saturday off the calendar for everyone else. From there you can finance the balance or pay up-front; if you pay up-front, the final payment is due 30 days before the wedding.
If your date is sooner than six months
Send the inquiry anyway. Some dates are open, weekdays and off-season Saturdays especially, and a smaller scope — bouquets and boutonnières rather than full installations — can come together on a shorter runway. We’ll tell you honestly what’s possible on your date rather than take a booking we can’t do justice to.
Working with your planner and venue
We collaborate closely with planners and venues, and welcome introductions in either direction — planners can request our trade overview at weddings@divinaarrangements.org.
On location: we serve venues within 40 miles of our Fontana studio, across the Inland Empire — Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside, Eastvale, Yucaipa, Redlands, Corona, Chino Hills, Moreno Valley, Ontario, and San Bernardino. If you’re unsure whether a venue qualifies, put its address in the inquiry and we’ll confirm. (Our delivery guide covers how the radius works for everyday orders.)
The small things that save the day
- Weather. For outdoor weddings, a contingency is built into the proposal from the start, and we confirm logistics with you 72 hours before the day — not the morning of.
- The bouquet the morning of. Keep it in water, out of the sun, until the last possible moment before photographs. Everything in our flower-care guide applies doubly on a wedding day.
- Preservation. If you’d like to keep the bridal bouquet, preservation is available through trusted partners — ask and we’ll add it to the proposal.
If you’ve read this far, you’re already ahead of most couples. Share your date and your vision, and we’ll come back with a proposal composed for the day you’ve imagined.
